Sickened by Facebook pages condoning violence and rape, on 21st May 2013 we joined Women, Action & Media (WAM!) in their campaign calling for the social media giant and advertisers to shut down pages like the one here!
On 28th May 2013, Facebook bowed down to growing pressures and pledged to train moderators, work with women’s organisations and speed up shut-down procedures of such sites! BUT the fight isn’t over yet – we need to make sure Facebook stay true to their word!
2 THINGS YOU CAN DO TODAY!
1. Share WAM’s open letter to Facebook with all your friends and family – and get them to pass it on to their friends – SEE LETTER HERE. The more people who know about this and report pages, the more likely Facebook will stay alert!
2. Report any offensive pages promoting violence against women to Facebook IMMEDIATELY! If that doesn’t succeed, contact us via Twitter (@MakeHerstory1) using hastag #FBrape or visit see WAM’s excellent activism page HERE to see what action to take next.
